Cities can be a surprising source of visually exciting images. Curtis has explored the abstract and sculptural qualities of building sites, storage tanks and sports stadiums. She has found intricate patterns in stacks of the steel modules that form the masts of tower cranes.
The White Family paintings are based on a cluster of scrubbers belonging to a wood-processing Factory. Each scrubber appears to have a head and body and as a group they resembled a family.
